CHILDREN'S DENTISTRY

(805) 466-6713

Our primary goals for our pediatric patients is for them to have a very positive experience at the dentist. Dr. Jennifer Kang has nearly 10 years of experience providing dental care to children with an emphasis on positivity.

Coming to the dentist should be fun! Kids are usually excited about the cool moving chair, the bright flashlight that hangs from the ceiling, and the toys they earn when they do a great job!

When should they start coming to the dentist?
According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the first dental visit should be before their first birthday. This visit is usually short and involves very little treatment. We will introduce your child to the office, teach them how to sit in the chair and talk about how to brush and floss their teeth. We will gently examine your child’s teeth and gums. X-rays may be taken (to check for decay and development of adult teeth). We may clean your child’s teeth and apply topical fluoride to help protect the teeth against decay. We will make sure your child is receiving adequate fluoride at home. Most important of all, we will use fun and positive reinforcement to make their dental appointment as fun as possible.

How to prepare for their first visit

Here are some tips that can help to make the experience fun and exciting:

  • Bring your child by the office for a preview. We have a cool kids nook with toys and coloring books.
  • Read books with them about going to the dentist. Talk to them about the things they see in the pictures that they might also see in the real office.
  • Practice opening their mouth big so the dentist can count their teeth.
  • Speak positively about your own dental experiences.
